Authentic Viet 7 Course Beef Banquet

Last weekend, Ade, Kaz and I decided to do dinner without the guys :D Hahaha, nah.. it's just that we thought they didn't wanna do dinner, and they thought we didn't wanna do dinner. Anyways, who cares about them huh? :P

The three of us went to Richmond, cause Kaz wanted to introduce us to something we haven't tried before. Authentic Viet dining... and not just the usual noodles and rice that we always have. It's some 7 course beef banquet thingy. (authentic cause it's not on the regular menu. You've got to request for it). Feeling adventurous, we agreed to take up that challenge.

The first dish was some beef cooked in vinegar, wrapped with salad, apple, mangoes, some spices, in rice paper rolls. It was quite interesting, considering we had to do everything ourselves.

We even had to dip the rice paper thingy into the water, to soften it before we could put all the stuff into it and roll it up :D It's kinda fun actually! But not quite ideal when you've been starving for the past hour, waiting for the food to come~! I wonder what took them soooo longgg anyway. They didn't even have to cook the dishes for us.

Mei, holding the rice paper sheet.

My first rice paper roll! Not too bad huh? Nicer looking than Ade's. Hers was rather short and stunted. tee hee hee.. :P

The second dish was beef on sizzling hot plate, wrapped in rice paper rolls like before.

The beef salad with crackers was yummy! :D

This was my least favourite dish. It was beef marinated in different ways. Some tasted rather strange to me... Or maybe it's like... acquired taste. But I didn't really fancy that. Neither did Kaz or Ade. So, a rather big portion of it was left behind. What a waste...

The final of the 7 course banquet was the beef porridge. It was really yum actually! But I was already too full to fully enjoy it. Ade really liked it though. The porridge was smooth and fine. Not grainy, like the ones I make. Tee hee..

I don't know why I agreed to take up such eating challenge. I shall never do that again. It took the 3 of us, quite some time to actually finish everything, and honestly, I looked like I was gonna hurl anytime. I couldn't force anything down my stomach anymore.

But to those who are interested, it's actually quite reasonably priced. The shop is called Thanh Ha 2, on Victoria Street, Richmond. But make sure you prepare yourself for beef, beef... and more beef :D

Thanks Kaz, for introducing us to that. It was quite an adventure, really!
