I've just been rendered speechless...

I had a late night yesterday, resulting in waking up late, and missing my appointment with friends today. *I really do feel bad. I'm sorry guys!*

I went online to check my mails with my eyes half opened, only to be shocked by a friend who sent me this video. The same video is available on YouTube as well. AND the prequel to how it happened too.

Below is a snippet taken from limkitsiang.com, who also blogged about the incident.

Students Progressive Front (SPF) member Wong Chai Yi has claimed she was shoved so hard by members of the university student council, that she fell.

This is an account in the Malaysiakini report yesterday:

She said the incident occurred on Monday when five members of her group set up a ‘help counter’ at 6.30pm at a hostel to provide information on their activities to new undergraduates and offer advice to those with problems.

Wong told malaysiakini that about 40 students – led by the council president – surrounded her group members and scolded them harshly for setting up the counter when the SPF is not a registered group.

“He told us to leave within 10 minutes, saying he did not want any trouble, but we refused to go. They surrounded us and removed our brochures, tables and chairs, and our belongings, to force us to leave,” she said.

“While doing so, they shouted at us and pushed us out of the way. A security guard witnessed this – instead of stopping them, he joined them in pushing us.”

This had been the second such incident in the campus involving SPF at UPM.

I do not know what to make of this. I do not know what else to say. I do not know how to react to this. I couldn't help but feel a sense of fear in me, as I watched the video. What if it was me?!? It COULD be me. Totally outnumbered, totally helpless...

I am glad that I'm fortunate enough not to be in that situation, but it got me thinking, "Where do I truly belong?? If people in my own country do not feel that I belong there".

And then, I felt sadness, taking over my fear...

This post is not meant to offend anyone, nor imply anything. I DO have friends of other race who are 100% true and sincere.

But I must also say that racism exists everywhere... and I mean everywhere. Some just conceal it better, while some display that thought and act right out in the open.

ps: Being out of the country has made me 'slow' and outdated with keeping abreast with the most current issues. Lim Kit Siang blogged about it on the 20th. I think that entry is definitely worth a read.

anonymous: We shall wait and see... and perhaps, hope that things will change for the better?

I hope something gets done to the parties involved in that issue. It seems that these kinda occurence is becoming a 'norm', which shouldn't be tolerated.

well, i don't see this as racism as they (orphan babarian) even bully their own race.. Now the problem is what the next step will be taken by our government or UPM? NOTHING...they try to "hide" the case.. damn ..

Over-glorified third world country, that's what she is, Malaysia. It's rather sad that almost half a decade of independence and all the facilities of a developed nation that the mentality both those who lead and those who elect have not progress in unity. Fifty years, and they still are getting it all wrong.

hi. yea, this is shocking. but one suspects it happens more that we know. Affirmative action only drives the races further apart from one another. And makes one race more dependent on crutches and feel more entitled. Sad truth.
By the way found your blog via the message you left in mine. You don't recognize me, do you? ;)
Small world.

dragon city: Yeah.. whatever it is, it's not tolerable. And sweeping things under the carpet ain't gonna help the situation.

You can't wrap fire with a piece of paper, cause ultimately, you'll get burnt! I just hope they realise that.

Hey…
Yeah racism sucks and I’ve been upset about this for the longest time ever.
I’ve always felt strongly against racism. I’ve been exposed to many different situation of racism in the past and I’ve voiced out my feeling or anger but no one seem to care or respond appropriately.
Many times I noticed that most people would only define racism when it’s their race being oppressed but when it is them who are oppressing or expressing racist comment towards others, they tend to feel it’s not racist. To make it worst they feel what they feel is right and it’s only normal for them to feel that way.
Sometimes we need to ask our self whether we our self are racist to begin with. It doesn’t really help also that some opportunist are playing the racial hatred card and try to capitalize on every chance they get just so they can make people hate each other. This is sick people and we must teach our children to strive towards racial integration and not being suspicious towards other people.
I feel scared that one day, its just going to blow and we would have another racial conflict. History of mankind has shown this to happen, and when we have a society that never seem to learn from history, it should not surprise us if occurs again.
Let’s just hope for the best and do what we can to avoid any future problem.
Just another of my humble thought :)

Rudster: I hold to the belief that we were all created equal by God. It's the upbringing that made us the person we are today. And yes, history will repeat itself if we do not learn from it.

Well, you're just expressing your thoughts. Nothing wrong with a long comment :D I appreciate that.
