Our last day in Siem Reap was free and easy, so for once, we didn't have to wake up at some ungodly hour to get ready, and get going for sight-seeing. We slept in, and woke up about 8am, then had brekkie in the hotel.
Mom and Mei in front of the hotel.
We went to the nearby Old Market to look around, and do some souvenir shopping. It looked pretty nearby from the map, and the receptionist in the hotel said it's pretty walkable....
But boy, we took quite awhile cause the roads were dusty, and the weather wasn't very permitting~! It was real hot, so we had to make a few stops at the convenience store before we arrived at the market. We had a "slurpee" each to recharge and made friends with the boss, a Cambodian-American who's trying to bring the Pink Berry concept to Siem Reap.
Stopping nearby for lunch. Mom and Mei - don't we look alike?? I think I'm gonna grow to look like mom **which is not a bad thing, hehe**
The yummilicious food on our table. Cambodian cuisine is very similar to Thai and Vietnamese. Influence from neighbouring countries I guess.
We didn't wanna walk back to the hotel after that! Realising what a difficult task it is, we decided to take the tuk-tuk back to the hotel. You're not really a tourist here until you've been on the tuk-tuk afterall!
One with the tuk-tuk driver.
The next morning, we left Siem Reap on a bus to Phnom Penh. The bus ride wasn't the easiest. It took about 6 hours, and wasn't too comfortable to sleep in, cause the driver kept honking the whole time! It's the culture in Cambodia when you wanna overtake someone, you gotta honk. And mind you, there are no 4-lane-highways in Cambodia. Mainly just 1-2 lanes, so the whole time, he was honking to overtake... Be it a bicycle, motorcycle, other cars, or merely pedestrians.
Stopover @ Kampung Thom. We had morning tea in one of the restaurants, and opposite the road, they were selling fried bugs~! Anyone interested? I think one of the girls on our bus bought a grasshopper! Ewww...
Needless to say, I didn't have any!
Us on the bus. Might as well camwhore if you can't sleep, rite? What more can you do?
Yay!!! Finally in Phnom Penh! The roads are bigger, the city much more modern and less dusty.
Independence monument - after 90 years of French colonisation.
After having lunch and resting a little, the *english speaking* tour guide brought us on a cruise of Mekong River - one of the longest rivers in South East Asia.
Funny and I onboard the river cruise. It was quite scary, cause it was raining quite heavily at one point, at the boat started rocking! Bbrrrr....
Yeaps, there was nobody else onboard, except for us, and the tour guide. Oh, and the person steering too, of course. What is he? The captain? the driver?? skipper?? Whateverr... you know what I'm talking about. I've got a mental block at the moment...
Well, the good thing about rain is, the rainbow comes after.... :D
