Double the luck, Triple the baby, Quadruple the joy!

.
Gosh! I am so esthetically happy that I've got to blog this down and share it with the world!!!
.
I went to bed late last night, and decided to be lazy, and rock up an hour late for my neonatal paediatrics rotation this morning. Well, I got to the hospital at almost 9am (meant to be there by 8am) and rang the paediatrics registrar.
.
Met up with him, introduced myself.. and we went to see a couple of patients. Just the normal reviews and checks and all... and then did some "recuiting" for a clinical study. He then went to update some stuff on the computer, and I went to my locker to chuck my books away, cause I didn't wanna carry them around.
.
I went back up to the ward, and paged him, when he said,
"Mei, do you wanna go get changed? Cause we're going down to theatre"
"Oh okay, Great! I'll meet you there then."
.
Well, we got to theatre, and prepared the cots and equipments for the babies. And guess what?? I saw THREE warmers there!
"Multiple pregnanies?"
"Uh huh. Triplets. The couple we just spoke to this morning."
I was like.... YES! (obviously, didn't shout it out in front of my registrar)
"Oh. So quick?? Kewlll"
.
So I waited not-so-patiently for the babies to be delivered. And there were three paediatricians around, ready to "receive" the babies. A few (okay, not so few) cuts on mom's lower belly, and then gushes of blood and amniotic fluid.... and then the babies were pulled out! Yippie! They were then transferred to the paediatricians with sterile towels and then placed under the warmers.
.
I then dried them up... made sure they were all crying and breathing fine, pink and healthy :) and then quickly wrapped them up. Those little cute eskimo look-alike little fellas are soooo adorable! Tags on, Vitamin K jab, and then they're ready to be whisked off to mommy!
.
Mom took a longgg look at her three handsome little boys, and then dad held one of them. (obviously, mom's tummy was still open, and can't hold the babies), the paeds reg held one of them... and guess who got the honour of holding the third triplet??? ME of course!!! :) *beaming*. Oh, I forgot to mention that I got to cut the cord too!
.
Hehehe... the triplets sooo totally made my day! But really, I had a reallllyyy eventful day. Got to do a premature baby resuscitation, and also helped deliver a pair of twins later in the afternoon! :) Woohoo! It really doesn't get much better than this, does it? All in half a day!!
.
And the icing on top of my already-superbly-fantastic-cake..
.
"What time are they doing the twins?" I asked the nurse at the theatre office, cause I needed to grab some lunch before that.
She looked at me and said
"Oh Mei, you're the paediatrician rite? It's at 1330."
"Nah, I'm still a student. But thanks, that really made my day!" Hahahah.
.
I'm so happy now, that I can't stop smilingggg... and the image of me holding MY triplet... hmm, bet I'm so gonna dream of them tonight! Mei, the paediatriannnnnn.... Hehehehe.
.
So yeah, 4 deliveries on my first night shift :) And multiple, multiple pregnancies, all in a day! Singletons, twins, and triplets! Am I lucky? Or am I just darn luckyyy??

Master Peebody: Well, they were literally pulled out! :) I'm just glad they made it... Yippie!

Well, to summarise, it was really kinda like... cut, cut, cut --- whooshh --- tug, tug --- pull baby out!

Master Peebody: I guess you've got to get used to it, or else you can't really survive in the medical world. It sounds grosser than it really it :D

John Vain: OoOo.. wounds are my favourite! I love suturing! Hehehe.. Well, you'd probably think I'm a psycho now.

Mei said...

John Vain: I'm perfectly sane. If nobody does the suturing, then whois gonna help those ppl in need?
