Just how does one measure success in life? The amount of money he earns, the type of car he drives, the size of his house/mansion, the number of maids he's got, all the wonderful places he's been to for vacations? The amount of friends he's got? The number of times he's appeared on the front page of the newspaper? Hmm... is there really a tape measure for it?
.
Just how objective, those measures really are? Material possessions aside... are there any other ways of telling just how successful one is? And really, does it really matter at the end of the day?
.
I know it sounds really silly if I said "It doesn't matter". Because deep down, we all know it does. At least to an extend... no matter how tiny. Or else, why would one strive to be better? Why do we work so hard to make the grades? Why do we work our asses off to get the promotion? Why do we want to be on top of the ladder?
.
If one's contented with what they've got... Does that make them simple and unambitious? But if one isn't... Does that make them greedy? And what if they know they're better than you, and aren't afraid to flaunt it? Does that make them conceited?
.
I always wondered, what really is 'ideal'? And why is it, that when one looks at someone else, they always wish that they're more like them? Is being yourself not good enough?
.
"Why can't I be smarter?"
"Why can't I be quicker?"
"Why can't I be richer?"
"Why can't I be prettier?"
.
Is it not possible to look inside yourself, and at least for once, try to see what others see in you?
.
Really, is the grass always greener on the other side? Is that just the way life is?
.
Or maybe... I'm just a down-right pessimist. *shrugs*

hmm..i actually don't think it's a that random..i sometimes think of stuff like that..especially since starting work...of course striving for success in the material sense will ease financial burdens but i guess once these burdens are taken care of, it's the other goals which we individually define are what that matters most.
Anonymous: I guess you're right. In the end, it's really up to the individual how they perceive 'success', and how they measure and weigh it out :)
How about this?
Success in life = Work + Play + Shut up.
Of course I wish to do it with my my love ones.

I guess it sorta depends on every individual, how they measure their own success. I'm sure everyone has diff ways of defining what success means to them.
