Of bottled up work frustration...

Nurses, don't you just love them, but hate them at the same time??

I had a perfectly good shift yesterday,
until some d*ckhead nurse that thinks he's-all-that ruined it for me.
I don't think he was very happy that I stood up for myself,
justifying what I wanted to do and why.
Furthermore, he didn't need to be nosey anyway.
He wasn't working in that section, and was meant to be triage-ing. Durrrr...

---------------

Scenario: High speed rollover MVA. Female patient in twenties presented with neck pain, backpain, flank pain.

He: Can she go for X rays now? Have you written up the slip?
She: Yes, the slip's written. But she can't go until she does a wee. Cause I need to check for blood and Bhcg to make sure she's not pregnant.
Patient: Oh, I'm not pregnant. I'm on the pill.
He: She just did a wee before, after triage. It will be awhile before she can do another. So can she go for X rays?
She: And you didn't dipstick it? And No, she can't go for X rays yet. *like durrr! but I didn't say durrr of course! Durrr :P * I still need to make sure she's not pregnant before I scan her!
He: **gives her the eye!**
She: **like what-evaaa! Like I care whether you shoot me the stare. Ooohh.... I'm so scared I'm pissin' my pants, sucka~!** (obviously, I didn't say those too! What? Do you think I'm some rude ass doctor?)

then....

He: Why are we cannulating her?
She: Cause she needs analgesia? AND I'm not gonna wait hours for her to produce a urine sample, and then wait again for X rays. She's in severe pain, and I will push fluids into her if she still complains that she can't gimme a sample.
He: She can have some Panadeine Forte?
She: Yes, she can. But she has a C-collar on, and she can't sit up... AND if anything shows on the scan, she might be going to theatre, so we'll keep her nil by mouth for now.
He: Okayyy... *walks away, obviously frustrated*
She: *cannulates the patient* (Nobody asked you for help in the first place).

In the end, the patient was not pregnant, and she went for her X rays anyway... but my point is, people have been chucked into CT scans before when they were pregnant! And the result.... NOT pleasant~! And who's arse will be in trouble then? Not yours, but mine!

This ain't an immediate life threatening situation! (she was stable, not bleeding out from all orifice, mind you). So just f*cking lay off and lemme do my job, and you get back to the triage area and do yours!

Just don't forget to bring your brains to work next time!

We still had to CT her in the end, cause we couldn't clear her neck solely based on the X rays. She was indeed very tender midline, and the consultant felt that it was appropriate to CT her.

Were you gonna be responsible if she was indeed pregnant? I don't think so! So just lemme do my job...

---------------------------

Disclaimer: This is a once-off situation, with a nurse I don't normally work with. I do have alot of respect for nurses, and I do get along very well with them, thank you very much! If anything, sometimes, I do find them more competent than some doctors! *no names mentioned here, but some of them didn't even know how to do a log roll!* Like, Urrr... you're all supposed to stand OPPOSITE me, NOT BESIDE me?!

I can understand why the nurses questions their decision sometimes, and intimidates them, but I assure you... that I can't be pushed around like them, and I will stand up for myself, even to the consultant. And yes, I will admit that I'm wrong, if I am... and learn from it, even if it means I have to learn from you.

So yes, I can't stress again that I have nothing against competent nurses. We need them, if anything... cause they just make your working life wayyy easier. But thank you very much, I think I can manage this without you breathing down my neck.

And yay!! I'm on a day off today... back to see my boys! You can attempt to boss around someone else, cause I won't be around! Woohoo!

krystal: Uh huh... you're soooo right! I just hope he's not doing the same shift as me. I'm doing nights, so I'll be stuck with him again, if he's doing nights!

hmm i think system here is terrible lol. Doctors here don't earn money bcos all medical fees are f.o.c for all citizen. But the people here are very smart, medicine is like eating taugeh to them. And almost everyone know something about medicine. Even a 5 years old kid can tell you his complaints in full details. Even if given a chance also I won't want to work here bcos Russia is a horrible country =( sad but true. Russians are rude, stubborn, harsh... they are just not like those polite englishman we see in other countries. Probably bcos poverty made them like this.

Oh dear Littlepolaris, it sounds really quite bad in Russia. I thought the working system in Ireland was bad enough! They work us medics 24-30hours shift, normal working day + on-call + expected to stand/run on your feet the next morning doing your day-job. I'm glad I'm getting out of here in July!
